Tour 2008 “Heart of Europe”

Date Information
Friday May 23rd Depart from Minneapolis
Saturday May 24th Afternoon arrival in Frankfurt Rhein/Main Airport, bus transfer to Parkhotel Weiskirchen. Welcome speech and drink in the hotel lobby or weather permitting in the Beer garden. After check in and dinner at the “Vier Jahreszeiten” Restaurant you are free to use the sauna or pool or take a walk around the lake.
Sunday. May 25th Today we have some free time until after lunch when we go to “Trier” the oldest city in Germany. The city dates back to before the Romans. The official date is 16. B. C. We have a guided tour to see all the important sites such as the Amphit Theater; Roman Baths also called the “Kaiserthermen” and the old city gate “Porta Nigra.” After some free time the bus will bring as back to the hotel. Dinner at the restaurant. After dinner you can join Hans for a walk and perhaps a beer somewhere in town.
Monday May 26th Today we leave the hotel after breakfast, after a short bus ride we arrive in Saarburg a small city founded in the middle ages and famous for its castle and the downtown area. After a guided tour we catch a boat and go upstream to Mettlach.  In the old Saareck Castle we have a three course lunch with a complimentary glass of wine. You have time to shop in the outlet center of Villeroy & Boch famous for its porcelain. After that we go to Schloss Thorn for a wine tasting with a real Baron who has many interesting things to say about wine. Tonight we eat at “Africa Stuben” my friend Hella and her husband are the owner and Chef. It is optional for you to go there; the bus will drop us off but not take us back. It is very close to the hotel, walking distance.
Tuesday May 27th Today we start a little later, after dinner at Hella’s we might be tired and need some rest. Today we head to Luxemburg the capital of Luxemburg State. We have a guided tour by bus and a short walk through the old city. You are free for lunch and shopping. We meet again with the bus and do some sightseeing like the Marlborough Castle, Siereck Castle right on the French Luxemburg border. Called the three country corner. And at last we see the Saarschleife from there we go back to the hotel..
Wednesday May 28th Today we leave right after breakfast to visit Heidelberg with its famous castle; there we have a guided tour. After that we have a guided tour though the old part of Heidelberg. Take a break for lunch and take in the sights of Heidelberg.
Thursday May 29th Today you get to sleep in, have a leisurely breakfast before heading to Bernkastel which is famous for its Monastery and Castle Landshut and Cochem in the Mosel Valley. We get to go on a special truck for Burg Landshut where the view of the Mosel Valley is spectacular. After that you get to stroll through the narrow streets of Bernkastel have lunch or ice cream. After lunch we go to Cochem and visit the Castle “Reichsburg” on top of the hill. The castle has been reconstructed during the past years. If you want you can visit the castle, it is optional. After that we go back to the hotel for dinner.
Friday May 30th Today we visit France the Battlefields of World War one, close to the City of Verdun. A guided tour through the Battlefields and the Bunkers is scheduled. At the end we visit the War Cemetery.
We continue to the City of Metz, since the middle Ages a well defended City. In addition we have a tour of Metz with a guide and to give us some information of their history and show us some interesting sights. Dinner at the hotel.
Sat. May 31st Another full day of touring on the bus to Strasbourg the European Union Capital. A guided tour of the old part of Strasbourg. Visit the Munster Cathedral. We continue our tour to Riquewihr.  A medieval wine city in the Alsace region. Here we can have wine tastings or stroll through town to do some shopping. Dinner at the hotel.
Sun. June 1st The best is yet to come. Your last day in Germany is coming. Today we have a full schedule, it is a favorite of many travelers. Known all over the world ”Rothenburg ob der Tauber”. It is the second oldest City in Germany, also a medieval town.
Monday, June 2nd After breakfast we leave for Frankfurt, catch our plane back to the USA via Reykjavik. Unfortunately our trip “Three Country Corner” will end today.
